I take a collaborative approach to my work with clients. Practically this means that I rely on my clients’ understanding of themselves to collaboratively develop a picture of their unique challenges and goals for therapy. This informs my clinical interventions, which I tailor specifically to my clients’ specific needs.
I emphasize insight in my treatment, specifically developing an awareness of how my clients’ experiences in life (i.e. childhood, traumas, relationships, etc.) have shaped who they are today. This insight unlocks an ability to purposefully change aspects of ourselves as well as our environment, which ultimately can reduce one’s suffering in the present. In addition to insight oriented work, I draw on a number of practical interventions such relaxation techniques, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, distress tolerance and exposure based interventions.
